Baby Sleep Routine

It is important that kids have structure in life, and a great bed time routine is part of that. This may not be what a mother or father would like to do, because it ties them to a clock and they also become bored with it, however it is what is the best for your child. This should begin early in life, if you ever intend to be able to have a normal sleep routine.

If your bundle of joy is an infant, this comfort and ease helps the little one know when it is time to sleep. If a little one is set off course, they can end up cranky as well as irritable, sometimes even refusing to sleep and at other times simply not being able to regardless of how tired, they are; which obviously is hard on the tired parent as well.

As the child grows, a routine lets them become more independent. They are fully aware what should be done next and will come to carry out the task themselves. For example, they might come home from school and do their own homework without nagging, brush their teeth after meals, and take their bath at a certain time – perhaps even climb into bed by themselves!

This will obviously take practice on the parent’s part, specifically for people who tend to be more of a ‘fly by the seat of their pants’ type. Nevertheless, turn it into a habit with your spouse or partner. Sit down at the dining room table around the same time nightly. Have your baby there with you, whether it is their specific feeding time or not. Even better, schedule it in order to all eat together!

It is hard after you have worked all day long to come home and continue going, however it will help both you and your kid when you have a nightly routine. You still require that one-on-one time together with your child. It doesn’t always have to be playing, dinnertime, bath time; bedtime is usually great quality time. It provides you with both the opportunity to relax and spend some time together. You may make bedtime fun by reading a book, messaging their back, or just snuggling; whatever works best for you.

You have to realize that unexpected things happen and there is nothing that you can do about it, so if you’re having a hard time sticking to a schedule just keep trying. If you fail to have dinner on the table until 6:30 that is ok, your son or daughter might be a little late going to sleep. They will have dinner, bath and then bed. You do have to be a little flexible. This helps your kid to be able to sleep well and so will you.
